Why is it called Black Friday?
Black Friday refers to the Friday after Thanksgiving in the USA, a day which is widely recognized as the start of the holiday or Christmas shopping season. It all started back in Philly in 1961 as a local term used to describe how ridiculously busy the sidewalks were in the city on the day after Thanksgiving.
Everybody would hit the streets to start their holiday shopping and they were “Black” with the crowds of people.
The phrase spread beyond Philadelphia and had gained widespread use on the East Coast by the mid 70’s before spreading to the West Coast and reaching saturation in the USA by the mid 80’s.
With the rise of the internet the term reached worldwide use in the mid 2000’s and Black Friday Fishing Deals are now available to people the world over.
